Homemade Baby Food

Believe it or not, before this past week I had never made baby food. I had always bought our baby food at the store. No more! Once I realized how easy it was to make, I vowed never to buy a jar of baby food again. I thought I'd show you just how easy it is.

One bag of carrots.

Peel and cut off the ends of 4-6 carrots.

Place carrots in a double boiler.

Cook on high for 20-25 minutes, or until fork tender.

Cut 2-3 of the carrots in half and place in a food processor.

Add remaining carrots through top feeder.

With a ladle, take one spoonful of liquid from the bottom of the double boiler.

Add water to puree through the top feeder while processing. Add a second if needed.

Perfect consistency for our early feeder.

Spoon puree into freezer-safe tupperware. This batch filled 2-4oz. containers and 1-2oz. container which will be enough for 7 feedings.

Place in freezer or refrigerator.

Let your little one enjoy preservative-free baby food!

I always made my own baby food for the kids and they liked it too. So easy and cheaper too. Only had a blender to do it in but it worked just fine.

Norah, I read somewhere that you can spoon the puree into ice cube trays to freeze. Each one is an ounce, so if you need three ounces, you just pop three carrot cubes out and warm them up.

Neat Pat!

And thank you Valerie! I knew I had heard something like that but couldn't remember the measurement of the cubes. Do you just stick the cube tray in the freezer? Won't it alter the taste?

I'd cover it with Saran Wrap or something.
